Isabella MacTavish Fraser's Wedding Dress (Replica)

Carefully replicated by our skilled artisan makers, this iconic historical tartan was the fabric of Isabella MacTavish’s wedding dress, which she wore to marry Malcolm Fraser just outside of Inverness in 1785.

The original dress is one of the only complete garments existing today that expresses tartan in womenswear - an area of historic Highland fashion that is relatively unknown, and indeed something which Prickly Thistle is passionately reviving.

This special replica tartan was woven in 2019 for Rebecca Old of Timesmith Dressmaking, who recreated this gown on her quest to learn more about its construction and share valuable insight into the work of female dressmakers in the Highlands.
