Tomatin Distillery
The softer side of the Highlands, indeed what could be more perfect than a stunning supersoft tartan cloth for the iconic Highland Whisky brand, the latest expression for Tomatin Distillery.
The Tomatin Tartan project began in December 2015. The request was to create a story telling tartan that captures all of the emotions, history and stunning environment that is Tomatin Distillery. Prickly Thistle are proud to say that such a design was registered with The Scottish Register of Tartans on the 11th March 2016.
Their design inspiration was based on a number of key components to their story. Firstly when the distillery was officially established in 1897, the distilleries height above sea level and the Monadhliath Mountains that shelter the distillery and the people. The company has worked over the years to build the Tomatin community that exists today and lies at the heart of everything they do. Over 80% of the staff live in the grounds of the distillery in purpose built homes, and reference to this community is also reflected in the design. Its the Tomatin life that forms the very essence of their expressions, every bottle of whisky is made and distilled with pride, and now their unique corporate tartan.

Jennifer Masson, Marketing Manager, Tomatin Distillery said ‘Working closely with Prickly Thistle, we’ve created a truly unique, contemporary tartan by incorporating the signature colours of our core range of Tomatin whiskies and weaving our own story in to the fabric. Clare and the team have been fantastic and made the process collaborative and enjoyable. The quality and modern feel to our new Tomatin tartan perfectly reflects our brand.’
